The vineyards of Vinha de Reis have been owned by the family of the same name for at least four generations. Located in the Portuguese Wine Region of Dão, sub-region of Silgueiros, it includes 7 plots of vines in a total area of 15 hectares, in the geographical position (40⁰35’56”N; 7⁰55’32” O), 440 m above sea level, overlooking the river that gives the region its name.
The largest and most significant of them is Quinta de Reis, located in the peculiar “terroir” of the village of Oliveira de Barreiros, from where we can see the rustic landscape of Serra da Serra. Star. The vineyards are installed in Royat and Guyot cord, North-South orientation and distributed by the Touriga-Nacional, Tinta-Roriz, Jaen and Alfrocheiro grape varieties for red wine, Encruzado, Malvasia-Fina and Bical for white wine, arranged according to the best viticultural techniques and century-old experience advise. Viticulture is carried out with the latest standards of technical requirements and respect for nature; pruning, fruit thinning and harvesting are done manually.
The current owner, Jorge Reis, who practiced Gynecology-Obstetrics and was director of Hospital São Teotónio-Viseu until 2002, decided to dedicate himself full time to viticulture and oenology since the renovation. For this, he did specific studies at the Escola Superior Agrária de Viseu and obtained his diploma.
In 2003, the Quinta’s old cellar (1924) was renovated, equipping it with the most modern oenological technology. His effort, knowledge and sensitivity were recognized in 2006 with the “Best Dão Wine” award.
Quinta de Reis produces the label VINHA DE REIS, HOMEM BOM and in exceptional years the WINE NOTE.
